The hot temperatures did not deter exhibitors from presenting outstanding competition rides at the July Jubilee Dressage Show, July 14-16 at Galway Downs. The summer event for the Temecula Chapter of the California Dressage Society was honored to host both the CDS Southern JR/YR Championships and the CDS/Parker Southern Regional Adult Amateur Competition. Close to forty qualified horse/rider combinations were part of the more than a hundred competitors.
One of the most important CDS programs, the JR/YR Championships showcases the future of our sport. Ten Championship titles were contested, and three teams went head-to-head with their combined scores from both dressage rides and equitation for top team honors. Lilica Guanga-Meyers (Norco, CA) and Ryder Mosqueda (Hemet, CA) captured the first two blue ribbons in their respective age breaks in equitation. In the end, the “Blue Ribbon Team” lived up to its name by winning the team competition. Made up of Lilica Guanga-Myers, Jocelyn Brattain, and Sophie Shohet the team earned an average of 73.313% to best “Main Attraction Team” (Ella Bough, Mia Folk, Ryder Mosqueda) by just a couple of percentage points. Third went to the “Whitebrook CowgirlsTam” (Casidy Ranes, Waverly Ranes, Nataile Nelson).
Though on the second-place team, Ryder Mosqueda was one of the biggest individual winners. In addition to the 13-U Equitation High Score Award, he won the Pony Club High Score Award, the FEI Children’s competition and the Diana Muravez, FEI High Score Award.
While juniors are the future, RAAC represents the base. Arguably, the most popular CDS program, the Parker Equine Insurance competition for adult amateurs is a draw in the Northern, Southern and Central regions of CDS.
With classes from Intro to Intermediaire I there are divisions for both novice and experienced riders. One of the first presentations of the show went to Eileen Kelley Pierce (Long Beach), winner of the Third Level Elite Division.
