In 1968 the Rancho California Track and Training Center (later to be named Galway Downs) was built to prepare the racehorses in our region to compete at our top California racetracks. Throughout the years changes to the industry and the property saw the racehorses at Galway take an important but slightly different role, but following the closures of Hollywood Park and Fairplex Park, Galway Downs had the opportunity to reconnect to its roots and combine its racing heritage with the incredible Sport Horses that have been the focus for the past 20 years.
As with all our equestrian operations, we have worked hard to become a high quality racehorse training facility to meet the demand for our Southern California based trainers. With that in mind, Galway Downs had its racetrack footing refurbished in January 2015 by Dennis Moore, who is a leader in the U.S. in racetrack footing. And, with the assistance of our friends in the racing community, we had the starting gate and other amenities improved. Galway has to thank the CHRB, TOC, and CTT for its efforts to bring sanctioned training back to Galway Downs, and the assistance of our friends in the racing community for helping to make the improvements a reality.
Galway is equipped with a the newly refurbished 1-mile racetrack a 5/8 mile training track and 400 permanent stalls, and it looks forward to welcoming several racehorse training operations to the facility.
