With the completion of veterinarian inspections, all is looking well for this field of competitors and horses. With the 2016 Olympic games in the rear view, our fifty international competitors are ready to kick off the new season here at the Galway Downs International.
In addition to the FEI divisions, over 200 National competitors will also compete over the weekend at the newly renovated Galway Downs Equestrian Center.
On top of the previously announced improvements back in November 2016, owner Ken Smith and organizer Robert Kellerhouse continue to upgrade the facility on a daily basis. From the new arena and gallop track in the back east portion of the facility, to the upscale Carriage House, there’s a little something for everyone (equestrian or not!) here at Galway.

This event always attracts top riders in the CIC1*, CIC2* and CIC3* divisions to come test their skill. Thanks to world renowned cross country course designer, Ian Stark for continually challenging and surprising everyone that steps out onto the course. This week we also have Michael Roy Curtis designing some skillful and technical courses in the show jumping ring. Combined, these two designers are sure to bring some competitive jumping this weekend.
Of the sixteen CIC3* entries, all but one pair were accepted by the Ground Jury. Leah Breakey’s Master King II was sent to the hold box and unfortunately not accepted upon representation.
Competition will begin Friday morning with Preliminary, Open Preliminary and CIC2* dressage at 8:00am. Following the completion of the CIC2* dressage, three-star competitors are set to go at 10:55 in the morning. Show Jumping will follow Friday afternoon beginning with the CIC1* division, culminating with the CIC3* division, where riders will be looking to add valuable points toward the top purse of forty thousand dollars in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series.
General admission for this event is $15.00, and children under twelve are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
Patron’s passes can be purchased for the weekend, varying from $55-$75 dollars, which include ringside seating, breakfast, lunch, and assorted beverages. For advanced reservations please visit: http://www.events.org/creg.aspx?e=105846&m=10.
Spectators from across the country and globe will be able to enjoy Dressage and Show Jumping Coverage via the live stream thanks to Ride On Video at www.rideonvideo.com.
